Perfect Protection

Every bare metal respray carried out by our expert team starts from the metal up. After a thorough cleaning and inspection of the bodywork, we start off with a coating of premium quality anti-corrosive primer. This ensures your vehicle and the new paintwork stays rust free for longer.

We have had countless vehicles come into our bodyshop for paint rectification works, after not long being “restored” by other workshops, and found no trace of an anti-corrosive primer being used. This stage is imperative for the preservation of your vehicle and its paintwork.

Our signature Multi-Stage Sytem

After the anti-corrosive primer is applied, every vehicle is treated to our signature multi-stage, multi-coat system. This is the key to picture perfect bodywork every time.

So often you will see a vehicle with a fresh paint job showing signs of sinkage, pitting and bubbling. This is all down to poor prep.

Hundreds of hours go into our stages to ensure nothing short of perfection. After all, a paint finish is only as good as the prep underneath.

Every Inch, Paint

We certainly do things properly here at Peacock Prestige. In fact, we would consider ourselves amongst the very best in the world.

Our aim is to not only get your vehicle looking the best it can possibly be but also protecting it for many years to come. Our bare metal resprays are providing picture perfect protection for every inch of your vehicle.

We’ll have your car properly protected in anti-corrosive primer and premium quality colour. Stone chipping, interiors and engine bays are all part of our bare metal respray services.

Our Prestige Finish

For customers looking for show car quality paintwork, we offer our signature Prestige Finish. This is our flat and polished mirror; our most popular finish amongst bare metal respray customers and concours competitors.

We also offer a varying level of final finishes depending on your specific requirements. Perfect paint from Peacock Prestige, with your budget in mind.

What are bare metal resprays?

A bare metal respray, or bare metal paint job, is the process of painting a car from the bare bones up. A bare metal respray means there are no traces of an existing coating before any new ones are applied.

Other types of paint coatings include blow-ins, designed for blending the paint on small repairs, blow overs, applying a new layer of paint over the top of existing paint to freshen up the exterior of your vehicle, or colour changes, when a new layer of paint is applied that is different in appearance to the existing one.

STRIPPING A CAR TO BARE METAL FOR PAINTING

The majority of bare metal resprays we have at Peacock Prestige come to us as a bare metal shell. This is normally due the complexity of the restoration projects we undertake, as opposed to full cars only needing paintwork. This doesn’t mean we can’t take in full cars and carry out all of the stripping and preparation to take the car back to bare metal.

First, all components are stripped from the vehicle, including the doors, boot, bonnet, glass, interior, headlights, bumpers, etc., leaving only the shell. Some customers prefer to leave the mechanical components in place and choose only to have the exterior shell of the car prepared, this means stripping the paintwork by “hand” by sanding away at the vehicle. Of course this means the entire car cannot benefit from the bare metal respray, such as the engine bay.

To achieve a proper full bare metal respray, all components are entirely removed leaving only the metal shell of the vehicle. This method allows the shell and panels to be sent off for acid dipping, or shot blasting services at our sister company, speeding up the process with great effectiveness.

Why choose a bare metal respray?

Painting over existing paint first and foremost provides no warranty. We cannot guarantee the condition of your bodywork as we cannot see what lies beneath the existing coating. A bare metal respray reveals any hidden corrosion, damage, filler and other imperfections that we can properly rectify.

This ensures the elimination of any issues arising later down the line. The last thing any car owner wants is a great rust bubble bursting through their premium paintwork.

What is the process involved?

After the coats of epoxy primer comes several expertly applied coats of polyester spray filler which is again flatted down by hand to ensure precise flatness. Then our technicians apply several coats of filler primer before repeating the flatting down process. The coatings are baked between each stage in our state-of-the-art down draft ovens to not only cure the coatings but to prevent any future warping of panels due to heat exposure.

The bodies are then disassembled and cleaned ready for colour stages. Underbodies are coated in stone-chip to prevent the body being exposed to the elements in the event of wear and tear, then we apply full-colour paint to the inside and underside of the vehicle. Once baked, we apply several coats of full-colour base coat to the exterior of the vehicle before finishing with several coats of premium quality lacquer (or clear coat) in the desired finish, before baking for the final time.

The fresh paintwork is then wet flatted by hand, followed by our signature machine polishing process to achieve our glass-like finish. The vehicle is then fully re-assembled, looking better than the day it left the factory, ready for our customer.
