The New 2024 Jaguar at Miami Art Week

With all of the buzz around Jaguar at the moment, be it the controversial rebrand or the upcoming electric car, it’s quite easy to get caught up in pitchfork-wielding mob when it comes to the divisive Type 00 Concept. As a result, its quite easy to overlook the fact that it is just that: a concept.

That’s right! Despite the internet’s reaction, this is nothing more than a concept car. Perhaps not as well received as Ian Callum’s Jaguar C-X75 back in 2010, but nonetheless another car that will likely never make it to production. That’s not to say that the codenamed X900 in our previous article won’t take some styling cues from the Type 00, but it almost certainly won’t look quite as space-age as the blue and pink metal we saw at the Miami Art Week.

What is the new Jaguar Model?

So what exactly did we see in Miami?

Quite simply: a long, sweeping, futuristic, monolithic grand tourer in either ‘London Blue’ or ‘Miami Pink’. With an almost anodised aluminium-like finish, it’s certainly not the sort of car you’d want to scrape in the Waitrose car park.

At over five metres long and unapologetically substantial, this big cat makes the Bentley Continental GT look like a Mazda MX-5 in comparison. It really is the sort of vehicle that your haters would suggest is compensating for something.

The London Blue pays homage to Opalescent Silver Blue, a heritage paint colour we are very familiar with here at Peacock Prestige. The Miami Pink pays tribute to the city of Miami, where the concept debuted.

Despite being somewhat reminiscent of the long-hooded mobster cars of the late 1920s, the first thing that comes to mind when gazing over the rosé silhouette of the Miami Pink Type 00 is the Pink Panther. The brushed metal panels and sharp accents hark resemblance to the Tesla Cybertruck, whilst the elegant masculine frame seems to draw inspiration from the Rolls-Royce Spectre. That’s a few too many similarities for a brand using the tagline “Copy Nothing”.

Why now?

Jaguar had already done a stellar job of making themselves relevant again.

Like it or not, the marque had been blown out of the water by its German adversaries and had fallen into an obscurity of customer base that was almost buying into the brand because of its history as opposed to its current offerings. Their attempts at going mass-market failed terribly and they were perhaps unfairly plagued with a reputation of unreliability.

The controversy surrounding the November 2024 rebrand, more reminiscent of a high-fashion marketing campaign than seven times Le Mans champions, sparked outcry from the public and media alike. It got everybody talking about Jaguar and reminiscing about the golden age of motoring. Nobody was losing sleep over the F-Pace or any of the other SUVs, they were basking in the memories of the E-Type, the XK120 and the plethora of supercharged V8s!

Striking whilst the iron was hot, Jaguar unveiled the Type 00 at just the right time to keep the name on people’s lips. Lets hope they can carry this momentum into 2025 when they unveil the codenamed X900.

2025 Jaguar Model

So what about the real car?

Well, as mentioned in our previous article, we’re expecting a sleek four-door saloon come five-door hatchback, reportedly bearing resemblance to the Porsche Panamera. There goes that “Copy Nothing” credibility again…

It’s a little hard to decipher much more than the basics from the prototype livery, but we can clearly see this vehicle has four passenger doors. Beyond that, it’s still a bit of a mystery as to what this new Jag is going to look like. Will it bear resemblance to the previous generation of cars such as the XE and F-Pace? Will it be the start of a total stylistic refresh for Jaguar? Only time will tell.
